The Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing Team at the
Achieve Center is designed specifically for infants, toddlers and
adolescents who have a variety of feeding and swallowing difficulties,
including dysphagia, Failure-to-Thrive, feeding-tube dependency,
oral-motor difficulties, and food/oral aversion. Feeding problems may
also include extreme food selectivity or refusal, difficult mealtime
behaviors, and/or difficulties with self-feeding.
Often, children who have been dependent on tube feeding need help with
the challenge of transitioning to oral feedings. Our goal is to
establish feeding patterns that optimize nutrition while supporting the
child's development in social, emotional, communication, and cognitive
(intellectual) areas.
Medical diagnosis that may be associated with feeding and swallowing
difficulties:
• Congenital Syndromes
• Dysphagia
• Failure-to-Thrive
• Gastro-Esophageal Reflux
• Oral Motor Dysfunction
• Tracheo-Esophageal Fistula
Our services include the evaluation and management of feeding and
swallowing disorders, and address the unique needs of each child and
family. Our team approach is multi-disciplinary and includes
speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and medical
nutrition therapists, who will coordinate their care with your child’s
primary care physician to meet the needs of your child.
